William Hacking, beloved family man and friend, returned to his Heavenly home on January 6, 2002 He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was born August 11, 1916 in Archer, Idaho. He was the tenth child born of eleven children to Henry Franklin and Martha Wilcox Hacking. He attended Pocatello High School and graduated from Madison High School. He then attended Ricks College in Rexburg, ID Thayne served his country in World War II stationed in Greenland, where he was an aviation technician for the army. After discharge from the army, he went to Los Angeles, where he was employed in the plastering profession.

He married Cleone Windley Smith in 1945, and became father to her two young daughters, Sharon and Paula. Their daughter Catherine was born four years later. The family moved to Bakersfield, CA where daughter Pamela was born. Thayne and Cleone spent the best years of their lives there. They had many friends and were active in the church where they both held many positions. They later moved to Salt Lake City and then to Lava Hot springs, ID where they have lived for the past 18 years.

Thayne was a High Priest in the LDS church. He was very active in the community, serving as President of the Lions Club in Lava Hot Springs, representative for a Senior Health Benefits Advisory, and also as a member of the Lava Revitalization Team. As a member of this Revitalization Team, he was instrumental in the final realization of the foot bridge across the Portneuf River in Lava Hot Springs.

Thayne was very kind and loving and never met a person he didn't like. He entertained everyone with his great stories. He looked forward to the annual family reunions and enjoyed the association with his extended family.

He is survived by his sweetheart, Cleone, who he affectionately called "Cookie" and his four daughters, Sharon Van Spanje, Paula (Buddy) Vineyard, Catherine (Pete) Sanders-Zamora, and Pamela (Mark) Morgan. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

A viewing will be held Tuesday evening from 7-8 p.m. at the Downard Hansen Funeral Home in Pocatello and one hour prior to the funeral service on Wed., Jan. 9th at the Lava Hot Springs LDS Chapel at 10 a.m. Funeral services begin at 11 a.m. Interment will be at the Mountain View Cemetery in Pocatello.
