POKEMON IN NYC

Families who visit the Big Apple can take a kid-friendly break at the new Pokemon Center at 10 Rockefeller Plaza on Manhattan's 48th Street. Play new Pokemon games free of charge. Parents should remember, however, that this is first and foremost a retail store. (Some of the merchandise is exclusive to the recently opened center.) So the pitch is to buy, buy, buy, as well as play, play, play. The place may not be all that wallet-friendly. www.pokemoncenter.com.

NEW COASTER AT KNOTT'S BERRY FARM

Coming in May is the Xcelerator, a '50s-themed roller coaster that will top out at a speed of 82 mph and a 205-foot climb before descending at a 90-degree angle. It's being designed and manufactured by Intamin International of Switzerland.
