David Manuel Martinez Sr., age 64, of Salt Lake City, UT., returned to his Heavenly Father, Jan. 8, 2002, after honorably fulfilling his mission here on earth.
He was born in Sebastian, Texas on Oct. 13, 1937.
He is survived by his beloved mother, Maria; his devoted wife,
Angela Zoila; and his children, David, Jr., (Roseann), Liza (Ken) Jacobson; Daniel (Minelly), Pablo (Claudia), Myrna (Chad) Weller, Sylvia (Ryan) Ratcliffe; and nine grandchildren, Kyle, DJ Marie, Britany, Whitney, Nathan, Melissa, Emilio, Emron, and Dominique; one brother Tony; sisters, Dalila, Amelia, Ruth, Irma, Mary; three foster brothers and sister, Pete, Shawn, and Doreen. Preceded in death by father Antonio and sister Delia.
He was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having held many positions over the years including, a mission in Central America, most recent 1st Counselor in the Bishopric of the Midvale 9th Ward. His greatest happiness came when he was serving his Heavenly Father and fellowmen. His occupation for many years was a Counselor in Social Work (MSW; CISW), for the church as well as for the Granite School District. He was working on his (Ph.D); in the education system. He also worked for the Salt Lake County summer youth program. He served in the Arizona National Guard (Ft. Huachuca) for five years.
Funeral services will be held Saturday January 12, 2002 at 2 p.m. in the Midvale 9th Ward, 8171 S. Jackson St. (250 W.). Friends may call Friday the 11th from 6-8 p.m. at Mtn. View Memorial, 3115 E. 7800 S. Cottonwood Heights., and one hour before services at the chapel on Jackson St. Interment at Mountain View Memorial Cemetery.
