Salt Lake-based Questar Corp. on Thursday said Charles B. Stanley has been appointed executive vice president and chief operating officer of its Questar Market Resources subsidiary.

Stanley, 43, most recently served as president and chief executive officer of El Paso Oil & Gas Canada Inc.

His career also includes work as a research and field geologist for the Virginia Geologic Survey, in exploration and appraisal for British Petroleum Co. and in several capacities with Maxus Energy Corp., culminating as vice president of international exploration and development.

He joined Coastal Corp., serving as president, chief executive officer and director of Coastal Gas International Co.

Questar Market Resources conducts nonregulated oil and gas exploration and production in 16 Western states and Canada, as well as gas gathering and energy trading. It has approximately $1.4 billion in assets and contributes two-thirds of Questar Corp.'s net income.
