Always wanted to have a say in education policy?
Now is your chance.
The Utah State Board of Education will have eight seats open in November's election.
They are: District 2 (Weber County); District 3 (Tooele, Salt Lake, Utah and Juab counties); District 5 (southeast Davis County); District 6 (northwest Salt Lake County); District 9 (southwest Salt Lake County) District 10 (central Salt Lake County); District 14 (13 southeastern Utah counties); and District 15 (five southwestern Utah counties).
The board oversees Utah's public school system, including charter schools, adult education programs, the Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind and the Utah State Office of Rehabilitation.
Interested residents must file a declaration of candidacy at their county clerk's office between March 7-18 and pay a $15 filing fee.
Nominating committees in each board district will review candidates and submit a list of three to five candidates to Gov. Mike Leavitt, who selects two names in each district for the election ballot.
