CHENEY, Wash. — Freshman point guard Darren Cooper scored his only points on a 3-pointer with four seconds left to give Eastern Washington a dramatic 68-66 victory over Weber State Saturday night.
The win kept the Eagles (15-11, 9-3 Big Sky) in second place behind Montana State (18-8, 11-2) for the lead in the Big Sky Conference.
The Wildcats followed Cooper's 3-pointer from the top of the key with a full-court pass that was tipped by several players before Weber State's Jermaine Boyette got control. He sent up an 18-footer that missed as time expired.
Marco Quinto led Eastern Washington with 16 points, all in the second half. T.J. Williams came off the bench to score 10 points and block five shots.
Boyette led the Wildcats with 22 points.
Weber State (16-10, 7-6) led 27-21 at the half, but consecutive 3-pointers by Quinto and a dunk by Williams cut the Wildcats' lead to 43-42 with 12:15 remaining.
Weber State reclaimed the lead at 59-57 on a jumper by John Hamilton with 3:58 remaining. The lead seesawed until Cooper's shot gave Eastern Washington the victory.
