Dorothy Lou Jones Smith, age 77, passed away peacefully January 31, 2002 in Salt Lake City, Utah surrounded by her loving family.
Born April 8, l924 in Georgetown, TX. Dorothy was the youngest of seven children born to Lavenia Catherine Hendrix and John Milburn Jones. She graduated from Central High in Knoxville, TN; met her husband while working at Oak Ridge Institute for Science & Education on classified materials that included the Manhattan Project and development of the Atomic bomb. Married June 12, 1948 in Hampton, VA. She was active in Scouting, PTA president and Mother's Club President for Demolay, Sigma Nu Fraternity and Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. Worked as an Administrator for the Utah State Tax Commission from 1978-1988.
She is survived by her husband, Henry Eugene Smith, Sr.; three children, Henry Eugene Smith, Jr. (Mirza), Sandy, UT, John Delton Smith (Peggy), Gilbert, AZ, Elizabeth Catherine Smith-Elliott (Kelven), North Salt Lake, UT; 11 grandchildren, Jeff (Emily), Dan, Angie Overbaugh (Jason), Jenny and Mike Smith, Shawni and Matt Smith, Ryan (Melissa) Elliott; and two great-grandchildren, Ian Smith, Sam-antha Overbaugh. She is preceded in death by her mother and father; four sisters, Marguerite Purcell, Milburn Whitmore, Eleanor Bradley, Geraldine Stevens; two brothers, JM and RD Jones.
There will be a viewing Mon. Feb 4, 2002, Memorial Estates Bountiful, 1640 E. Lakeview Dr, Bountiful, UT, 6-8 p.m. and Tues. one hour prior to the funeral at First Baptist Church of Bountiful, 1915 S. Orchard Dr, Bountiful, UT. Services to commence at 11
a.m.
Dorothy was a friend to all who knew her and always loved the Lord. Interment, Memorial Estates Bountiful Cemetery.
