OGDEN — The Weber County Sheriff's Office Saturday was trying to identify the body of a man found in a canal.
The body was discovered by a jogger just after 7 a.m. near 2850 South and Midland Drive. The man was lying in 12 inches of water.
The man apparently suffered some type of trauma to the side of his head, said Weber County Sheriff's Sgt. Klint Anderson. The death is considered suspicious but investigators weren't sure Wednesday whether the man was injured somewhere else and then dumped in the ditch or if he was the victim of a hit-and-run accident, he said.
An autopsy to determine a cause of death was expected to be conducted Saturday. The results won't be known for a few days, Anderson said.
Detectives believed the Hispanic man was about 43 years old. As of Saturday afternoon they had not positively identified him.
The ditch is next to a busy road.
