The late Utah state Sen. Pete Suazo will be one of two people honored by Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages Inc. when the group holds its 36th annual convention this week in Salt Lake City.

Also honored will be Dr. Victor Galindo Sanchez, minister of education and culture for the state of Sonora, Mexico. The two men will be honored during the convention's opening session at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Salt Palace Convention Center. Accepting the recognition for Suazo will be his widow, Sen. Alicia Suazo.

"During his time as a representative and then as a senator in the Utah State Legislature, Sen. Suazo was a consistent voice for diversity and ethnic rights within the state of Utah," said a press release from the group.
