KXRK (alias "X-96") was the big winner in the latest Arbitron ratings for the "Winter Book," released last week.

The alternative music station managed a 9.3 percent audience share in its age 18-34 core audience.

KSFI led the two other main age groups, the age 12-plus and 25-54 category. No station has been as consistent in its ratings for the past decade as "FM-100."

In other highlights, KUBL continued to be the top country music station, and KSL, though down a little bit this time around, remains the premiere AM station in this market by a wide margin.

RADIO HAPPENINGS "Johnson and Johnson" on KUBL orchestrated an Adoption Exchange Telethon last week. A highlight was FM-93.3 listener Jana Eaves making a bid of $950 for used chewing gum from Karl Malone, plus Brooks and Dunn front-row concert tickets and backstage passes. . . .

— KBER radio has a rather unusual name promotion under way — The "Holy Shed" of prizes. It concludes May 18 and is a safer title in print than on the radio. . . .

KZHT got a "Spider-Man"-clad climber to scale the Cliff Building in downtown Salt Lake last week to promote the new movie. . . .

Midday host Doug Wright on KSL conducted his own listener survey last week of the most popular superhero, to go along with the new "Spider-Man" movie. What he found was that it's super heroine Wonder Woman who is the most popular. She received 37 percent of the listener votes to beat runner-up Superman with 28 percent and Batman with 13 percent. . . .
