I feel the need to correct the misinformation in the letter written by Ken Cromar in the May 2 Deseret News. Cromar states that a person answering yes to the question, "Are you entering the United States for terrorist activities," can still receive a visa. That is bizarre and wrong. If the person has correctly understood the question, he would be automatically disqualified for a visa.
As for Mr. Cromar's statement regarding the exportation of our plus or minus 10 million illegal immigrants, I would like to know how he is going to identify and capture them without creating an American Gestapo to invade the homes of American citizens and violate the fundamental rights afforded them under the Constitution.
Furthermore, how would he then keep these illegal immigrants from coming back? These illegal immigrants are not from the Middle East and are not terrorists; they are mostly from Mexico and South America.
I would never advocate illegal immigration, and I strongly believe that a solution to the problem must be found that does not reward illegal behavior and is helpful for those who immigrate through legal methods.
Thirdly, I imagine that Mr. Cromar has never read the Patriot Act, or if he did he does not understand it. The Patriot Act is neither unconstitutional nor unpatriotic.
I applaud the measures taken by the House of Representatives to ensure that the Patriot Act does not violate our individual freedoms.
