The first baby delivered at the Birth and Family Place, a new free-standing birth center in Holladay, arrived Wednesday morning.

The state-licensed, free-standing birth center allows any certified nurse-midwife or physician to deliver a patient's baby if the provider is credentialed at a nearby hospital and the patient meets criteria for a normal, low-risk birth.

The baby was born to Andrea and Douglas Slighting of Riverton and delivered by certified nurse midwife Gwen Latendresse.
