It is truly unfortunate that people like Ms. Brown believe the information she "shared" with the Deseret News readers in her unpaid advertisement for her cause. It is unfortunate because it serves to promote another attempt to fix something that is not broken. It promotes the creation of another unenforceable law that will only restrict the rights of those who are by their nature law-abiding.
Do proponents of this petition believe their petition will prevent a criminal, or someone intent on doing harm, from entering any of the places they believe should be "off-limits" to those who go through the training and FBI background check to obey the law and obtain a license to carry a concealed weapon?
The problem is that those wishing to change the law are the ones who do not want Utahns to legally carry weapons anywhere. They have lost in all other attempts to violate our "unalienable right" in order to build their utopia. It is interesting to remember that according to the American system of government they are supposed to obey the law, not decide which they choose to obey, which is just what makes the petition so absurd and dangerous.
All Utahns should demand that those in positions of authority in the state obey the laws approved by our legislative and executive branches, not pass more restrictions on those who do obey the laws. Do not sign the petition, it is deceptive and counterproductive to the development of a safe, law-abiding populace.
