GREEN'S BAT GOING TO HALL: Now that Shawn Green has a home run record all his own, he has to find another bat to replace the one that helped him set the mark and caught the attention of the Hall of Fame.

The Los Angeles slugger got a call from Cooperstown, N.Y., after homering twice in a 10-5 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday.

The Hall wanted his bat, which he used to hit nine homers during the week and seven in his last three games.

JOHNSON PASSES JOHNSON: Arizona's Randy Johnson passed Walter Johnson for eighth place in career strikeouts in the second inning against Los Angeles despite his worst start in more than a year.

Johnson got his 3,509th strikeout — one better than Walter Johnson — when he got Brian Jordan swinging.

MONACO GRAND PRIX: David Coulthard seized the lead before the first curve and held off Michael Schumacher to win the Monaco Grand Prix.

Coulthard, who started second, beat polesitter Juan Pablo Montoya to the first curve and led the rest of the way.

Game officials will act swiftly to stamp out attempts at time-wasting, duping the referee by play-acting and stifling the flow of the game by shirt-tugging.

PREFONTAINE CLASSIC: Tim Montgomery failed to deliver on his boast in the 100 meters, running a relatively slow 9.97 seconds to win the Prefontaine Classic Grand Prix.

Marion Jones had a better day at Hayward Field, running the fastest 100 in the world this year at 10.90.
