The common-law wife of a former member of the Allred polygamist clan has been charged with multiple counts of child sex abuse.

Rebekah Maycock Baker was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail Monday for investigation of four counts of rape of a child, four counts of lewdness involving a child, three counts of sodomy of a child and two counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child.

In April, Gustavo Galindo Palacios, 70, was sentenced to two consecutive terms of three years to life at the Utah State Prison for abusing two young girls from 1995 to 2000. The girls are now 12 and 14.

Baker's charges stem from the same case, said Salt Lake County Sheriff's deputy Peggy Faulkner.

Palacios was a member of the Allred polygamist clan. But clan leader Owen Allred told the Deseret News in November 2001 that Palacios was dropped after allegations of the abuse surfaced.

Investigators do not believe any other members of Palacios' family were involved with the abuse, Faulkner said.
