Rajahia E. Peters Newton was summoned home by her Heavenly Father on June 10, 2002, to be reunited with many relatives and friends waiting for her beyond the veil.

She was born in Binghamton, New York on February 29, 1906 to Daniel F. and Betsy Jane Adams Peters. From her earliest years she worked on her mother's farm where she developed her life-long passion for gardening. Of necessity she later worked at a variety of jobs to provide for herself and her two children after the dissolution of her first marriage.

On her own initiative, she sought out and became a convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was baptized in July 1942 at Harmony, Pennsylvania near the spot where the prophet Joseph Smith was baptized. Throughout her life she has been a faithful member who has never wavered in her testimony. She fulfilled many callings in the church, Relief Society, Sunday School and Primary. She served as a District Missionary while in Binghamton and later as Stake Missionary in the Hyrum, Utah stake.

Genealogy was her real passion, however, and she worked tirelessly over the years tracing her own family history as well as teaching others how to trace their lineage. One of the highlights of this experience was a class she taught to young scouts while living in Ogden.

In December 1950 she married Claude O. Newton and they moved to Utah, buying a small home near Logan. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan temple. Together they dedicated themselves to improving their home and raising a garden as they did at their later homes in Ogden, Kaysville and Roy. After Claude passed away in 1983, Rajahia continued to garden as long as her health would allow.

She is survived by a son, Arnold Thayer, Park City, UT; and a daughter, Evelyn (Lewis) Tanner, Kaysville, UT. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. Surviving also are neighbors, Scott and Kelly Forsyth and their children who have 'adopted' her as "Grandma." Special appreciation is expressed to the many ward members, neighbors and friends whose compassionate care and love helped Rajahia through several illnesses and her final passing. A Special thanks to Vista Hospice for their loving care.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 14, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at the Roy 10th Ward Chapel, 5900 South 3100 West. Friends may call on Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to services. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery. Funeral directors, Myers Mortuary, Roy.
