William Dow Townsend, age 74, passed away June 10, 2002, 6 years after a debilitating stroke.
Dow was born July 13, 1927 in Murray, Utah to William H. Townsend and Eleanor Doty Townsend Kay. Challenged physically from birth and throughout his childhood, he met these challenges with courage and dignity. He graduated from Jordan High School and attended BYU and the University of Utah, where he studied pharmacology. Working as a pharmacist, he met the love of his life, Josephine Woolf. They married February 2, 1954. Together they raised five children in the Sugar House area.
After marrying Jo, Dow left the pharmacy business and went into retail management at Grand Central Stores, then into sales, later forming Townsend Seely Sales. Although he loved his work, his favorite place was his Bear Lake cabin, where he loved to golf, boat, and spend time with family and friends.
Survived by sons Dennis (Bobbie), Arkansas; Neil (Ian), Salt Lake; daughter Jill, Salt Lake; sisters Cheryl (Dick), Salt Lake; Charlene, Salt Lake; Leigh Ann (Bruce), Clearfield; brother Gregg (Gloria), West Valley City; Hope (Wesley), Harrisville; grandchildren, Brynn, Jon, Ben, Rachel and Becky, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by wife Josephine, son Bill, daughter Gayle, parents and brother-in-law, Eldon.
Funeral services will be held Friday June 14, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 Highland Dr. Family will receive friends at a viewing Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m., also one hour prior to the services on Friday. Interment will be at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. The family wishes to express our heartfelt thanks to the staff for the loving care provided to Dow during his stay at Evergreen Canyons Health and Rehabilitation Center.
