No one in a position to make an informed judgment has Utah Opera's long-term interest more at heart than Leslie Peterson. Madison Collaborative and Ernst and Young were paid for their opinions — favorable and uncritical. The 100-to-one opponents of the merger who contacted the ombudsman were not paid for theirs.

Peterson has paid an extremely high price to make her opinion clear. It is time for both boards to apply the lessons learned to building strong futures for two, separate organizations.
