I can't believe the debate is still going on! "Fate of bad priests still up in the air"? The solution is simple — every time someone abuses a child, whatever the reason, assess a sufficient punishment. Anything less than that encourages the abuse to continue and makes everyone involved as guilty as the abuser.
Covering up the crime does not help. A "slap on the wrist" punishment does not help. The punishment must be a deterrent.
