The parents of Elizabeth Smart released an open letter Wednesday morning pleading for their daughter's release and ensuring whoever is holding her they want to make it "as easy as possible" for the missing teen to be released.

"Whether or not you are the person who took her, we are pleading with you to do the right thing and let her come home," the one-page letter stated. "We sincerely beg you to release her or inform us of her whereabouts."

An armed intruder kidnapped the teen from her bedroom in the early morning hours of June 5. Despite a police investigation that has spanned the country, there's still no sign of the girl.

"We believe that she is alive and wants desperately to be returned to us," the letter stated.

The written plea comes two days after Elizabeth's father, Ed Smart, announced Monday that he believes whoever took his daughter did not act alone. Police said that's one of several possibilities they're looking into.

Police have placed former Smart handyman Richard Ricci at the top of their list of potential suspects, but he has not been charged with the kidnapping and denies any involvement. He remains in prison on a parole violation.

The family's letter reiterated the offer of a $250,000 reward for Elizabeth's safe return, as well as a separate reward of $25,000 for any "verifiable information leading us to Elizabeth."

The letter also thanked "our friends throughout the world" for thoughts, prayers and kindness.

"We ask that you continue to be alert of your surroundings to help find Elizabeth and other missing children," the letter stated.

The written plea, which also includes three photos of Elizabeth, is signed "Anxiously awaiting" by Ed and Lois Smart.
