I recently learned about a pitiful situation in the city of Enoch. Unwanted dogs are being euthanized in a homemade chamber "box" into which they pump hot carbon monoxide from a Dodge pickup truck. The mayor, Patrick Franks, and his warden have dug in their heels and will not switch to a humane method.

They don't have to even kill animals. Best Friends Sanctuary has kindly agreed to accept any placeable dog.

PETA has even offered to pay a veterinarian to inject the animals so they can painlessly drift into sleep, never to awaken again.

Enoch mayor and officials have refused to do minimum improvements. They even denied a necropsy to assess animal suffering. They also voted against filtering the gas currently pumped into the chamber via a water filtration system or an observation window into the chamber.

Offers to help have fallen on deaf ears. The animals need your help. Please write to Mayor Patrick Franks and City Manager Gaylen Matheson at 900 E. Midvalley Road, Enoch, UT 84720. Also call Gov. Leavitt, phone (801) 538-1000. Please let the Enoch officials know that you care about man's best friend. Thank you.
