Florida man pleads guilty in suicide-pact slaying

DELAND, Fla. — An 81-year-old man has pleaded guilty to manslaughter charges, saying he fatally shot his 74-year-old wife because she begged him to end her life as part of a suicide pact.

Leo Visco said Thursday he was "prepared for whatever happens" after accepting a plea deal between prosecutors and defense attorneys for the December 2000 shooting of Eva Visco.

Prosecution and defense attorneys agreed to reduce first-degree murder charges against Visco to manslaughter.

Visco could receive anything from probation to 30 years behind bars at his sentencing next month. He has been under house arrest since January 2001 after posting $40,000 bond.
