Our father and grandfather passed away January 11, 2003 at the age of 82.

He was born Sept 4, 1920, in Sumner, IA to Roy and Mattie Haag Austin. He lived in several cities in northern Iowa and traveled with his family to Aberdeen, WA as a teenager. He graduated from Weatherwax High School, 1939.

He worked for a logging company as a machinist and mechanic. Served in the 1521st Army Air Force. Married Lena Conti, March 9, 1945. They had three children, Judy and Kent Fine, Linda and Floyd Hiatt, and Robert R. and Jennifer Austin. Worked for U.S. Smelting and Refinery, Lark, UT until 1972. Retired from AMEX corporation, where he was recognized with the Governor's award for being a distinguished millwright. He spent many hours volunteering to feed the hungry at St. Vincent DePaul Center.

During his long and full life, Dad served as a mentor and teacher for his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed camping with his family and exploring Utah on his recreational vehicles.

Survived by his children, eight grandchildren and 12 great-grand-children. Preceded in death by his lifetime love, Lena, and a great-grandchild, Demi Hiatt.

Graveside services will be Mon. Jan 13, 2 p.m. Redwood Memorial Ceme-tery, 6500 S. Redwood Rd. Friends and family may call at a viewing in the chapel one hour prior to services.
