FARR WEST <! > - Jean MacKay Kershaw, age 76, passed away on January 12, 2003 in Portland, Oregon.
She was born February 23, 1926 in Granger, Utah, to Roland C. and Esther Luella Capson MacKay.
Mom married our dad, Fredrick W. Kershaw on January 2, 1943 in Abilene, Texas. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. He passed away in 1980.
Mom was a member of the Farr West 1st Ward. She served in many positions in the church, including Relief Society president, Primary president, Young Women's president, and a Stake Missionary. For several years, she served on the board that wrote the Relief Society curriculum for the church. Mom loved to teach the gospel and spent many hours reading and studying. We have many memories of listening to mom read poetry.
Mom was preceded in death by our dad and two of her brothers and two sisters. Mom is survived by her children, Jerry L. (Dee) Kershaw of Sandy; Kaylana (Steven) Gertsch of Farr West; Kathleen (Phil) Jensen of Sandy; Tamra (Greg) Kirkland of Portland, Oregon; Marinda (Steve) Gulbransen of Ogden, Utah. Also surviving are 25 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and her siblings, Eleanor Nielsen of St. George; John E. (Donna) MacKay of Holiday; Russell (Mary) MacKay of Tacoma, Washington; Luella (Harold) Newbold of West Valley City and Michael MacKay of Salt Lake City, Utah.
Under the direction of Myers Mortuary in Ogden, funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 18, 2003, at the Farr West 1st Ward Chapel, 1800 W. 1800 N., Farr West. The family will meet friends at the ward chapel on Saturday from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
Interment will be the Centerville City Cemetery.
