Josef Fakin, born March 13, 1923 in Yugoslavia, died December 29, 2002 at the age of 79.

Joe escaped the communist regime of Yugoslavia at the young age of 29. Leaving behind his family, Joe came to the United States to live in freedom. Joe studied hard, learning the English language and ultimately became a US citizen in 1957. Worked for Kennecott Copper for many years as a miner.

Married Lillian Fakin, later divorced. He had two children from that marriage. Married Dorothy Sievers and spent the next 31 years living in Murray, Utah with Dorothy and her family.

Survived by his wife Dorothy, son Josef (Diane) Fakin, Jr., daughter Mary Shivers of Oregon; stepson, Theodore (Dana) Sievers; stepdaughters, Jane (Gary) Doose and Dorothy Ann Scott, 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his stepson, Lester D. Sievers.

Funeral services will be held Friday 11:00 a.m. at the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 South State St., where friends may call Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Interment Murray City Cemetery.
