SHARE Fox Foundation gives $375,000 to Mayo Clinic

The Mayo Clinic Jacksonville has received $375,000 from The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.

The clinic is one of 11 institutes worldwide to get part of a $2.6 million grant to study Parkinson's disease, it was announced this week.

The foundation, founded in 2000, has become a major source of research money, funding more than $17 million in grants.

Fox, who starred in the "Back to the Future" films, revealed in 1998 that he has Parkinson's disease. He left the ABC series "Spin City" in 2000 to spend more time with his family and lobby for research related to the ailment.
