A DUI bill that would help judges be more informed at the time of sentencing has sailed through the Senate.
In essence, SB13, sponsored by Sen. Chris Buttars, R-West Jordan, seeks to have prosecutors inform judges of prior DUI-related convictions before accepting a guilty plea.
Too many times, Buttars has said, prosecutors don't look into previous offenses when an accused drunken driver enters a guilty plea to the class B misdemeanor.
The bill was forwarded to House without debate.
