PORT ALBERNI, British Columbia — When Ivy McKenzie was born, Wilford Woodruff was president of the Church and Grover Cleveland was president of the United States. She was born Feb. 3, 1897. On Feb. 3 of this year, Sister McKenzie of the Port Alberni Ward, Nanaimo British Columbia Stake, will turn 106 years old.

Sister McKenzie, who still attends Church every Sunday and crochets for her family, was a seamstress in Port Alberni for more than 35 years. She was still sewing at age 83. On her 100th birthday, she wrote in the branch newsletter about her baptism on Feb. 17, 1962, after meeting sister missionaries. "I did get with them and eventually got baptized, having to go to Nanaimo, as there was no font here at that time. I have served as a visiting teacher and as homemaking leader in the Relief Society."

She and her husband, Jack, who died in 1959, had four children. She has six living generations. As described by her friend and fellow ward member, Bertha Dillabough, "She is quit a remarkable lady."
