COALVILLE, Summit County — A man was in critical condition Monday morning after being shot in the buttocks during a Super Bowl XXXVII party.

Police are investigating whether or not the 12-gauge shotgun involved in Sunday's 10:30 p.m. incident went off accidentally during a scuffle between the victim and another man.

The two started fighting during a Super Bowl party the victim was attending at the man's house, 30 W. Center St., Summit County Sheriff Dave Edmunds said.

Both men were in their 20s. Police are still investigating how the fight started, Edmunds said.

At some point during the altercation, the party host grabbed the shotgun, Edmunds said. As the two continued to fight the gun fell to the ground, Edmunds said. A woman tried to remove the gun from the brawl, when it apparently went off, striking the victim once in the buttocks, Edmunds said.
