A Salt Lake man, 38, was charged with theft of services, a class A misdemeanor, after a business telephone line was illegally tapped for personal calls.
Employees of Supersonic Soft-Touch Car Wash, 26 W. 2100 South, found someone had run wires from the business to a duplex and mobile home a couple of blocks away. They notified police, charges filed Monday in 3rd District Court state.
Then the May and June 2002 telephone bills arrived at the business. Several calls were made to 1-900 numbers. There were several long-distance calls to Provo. These calls totalled $920.96 for both months, charges state.
On June 13, 2002, a man was arrested for an unrelated incident. He listed the mobile home's address on jail booking records. Authorities believe he is responsible for tapping the telephone line, charges state.
