Salt Lake City is looking for participants to fill its inaugural Illumination Parade that kicks off the city's Main Event Winter Festival, marking the one-year anniversary of the 2002 Winter Games.

The parade will be at 7 p.m. Feb. 7 with the Main Event spanning two days, Feb. 7-8.

Artists, clubs, groups, performers, churches, schools, businesses, families and individuals are invited to participate in the parade by designing a float, decorating a car, truck, bus, boat, golf cart, bike, scooter, skateboard, lawn mower or even their bodies. All entries must be illuminated with lights, glow wire, blinking lights, glow sticks, candles or ultraviolet paint. Entries must be family-friendly.

While participation is free, spots must be reserved by submitting an application, which are available at www.lightupthenight.org or by calling the mayor's office at 801-535-7704.

The parade will begin at The Gateway at 200 South and head north, travel east to South Temple and go south on Main Street before ending at Gallivan Utah Center, where the Main Event party will be held.
