Waldemar Paul Arlt, age 87, of Sandy, UT, passed peacefully in his sleep Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003 at home.

Waldemar was born April 7, 1915 in Karlshorst, Germany to Gustave and Johanna Arlt. He moved from Germany to Salt Lake City in 1925. Graduated from South High School and received a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Utah in 1939. He married Thelma White on July 19, 1940 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He served honorably in the Navy's Engineering Department in San Diego and Pearl Harbor during World War II.

Survivors include: wife, Thelma; children, Phillip (Judy); Sharon (B.K.) Knell; Stephanie Young; Shelley (Ron) Sparks; 20 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grand child; sisters, Gertrude Overlade, Marianne Etherington, and Edith Holme, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents and infant son. "Walt" will be remembered for his love of hard work, gardening, the gospel, and for his generosity to his family.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 31, 2003 at 11a.m. at the Hillcrest 9th Ward, 915 Peach Blossom Dr. (9355 So.) where friends may call Friday morning at the church from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment: Mt. View Memorial Estates. Funeral Directors: The Holbrook Mortuary.
