William Joseph Erdmann passed away, January 27, 2003, at his home surrounded by his loved ones. A courageous battle with melanoma cancer was met with strength, humor and especially love to the very end.

William was born May 27, 1926 to William and Maude Thorn Erdmann in Bingham Canyon, Utah. Raised in Midvale, he graduated from Jordan High School in 1944 where he was all-state center on the football team.

Served in the U.S. Air Force in World War II while stationed in the South Pacific and a member of the National Guard in 1950 during the Korean War.

Married Arlene Mary Southam, March 19, 1948 in Salt Lake City. He worked at Kennecott Copper, Salt Lake County Planning and Zoning, was a partner in the company of Plasticove, which was destroyed by fire. He started his own company in 1966 known as William J. Erdmann Company. After his retirement his two sons continued to operate the business. Hobbies include Bonsai trees; he belonged to the Bonsai club. He loved spending time at Pawn Shops, Antique stores, Estate sales and traveling in his motor home with friends and family, swimming in his home pool, spending time with his friends in the Ho Ho Club and Soda Pop Club.

Chairman of his High School reunion for many years, also a member of the Elks Club. In the past few years his greatest achievement was building his own cabin up Weber Canyon and was President of the Canyon Rim Ranch Assn.

He is survived by wife, Arlene, Midvale; four children Richard W. (Jeri), of Taylorsville, Kathleen of Riverton, Robert H. (Jeannette) of West Jordan, and John B. (Wendy) of South Jordan. Seven Grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a sister Louise E. Michael, of Fairfield, CA.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, 11:00 a.m. Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10550 So.), where friends may call Friday 6 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 10:45 a.m. Interment Murray City Cemetery.
