PROVO — The United Way of Utah County will receive $162,130 from the national United Way board.

A local board will determine how the funds will be distributed.

"There is certainly a greater need this year than in previous years because unemployment is up," said Bill Hulterstrom, United Way of Utah County president. "The local board's priorities include helping to meet needs for shelter, emergency housing and food."

Under the terms of the grant, local agencies chosen to receive funds must be private, voluntary, non-profits or units of government; have an accounting system; practice nondiscrimination; and have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs.

If a voluntary organization, they must also have a voluntary board.

Qualifying organizations are urged to apply by Jan. 10. For more information, call 274-2588.
