TOOELE — No criminal charges will be filed against Mayor Charlie Roberts following a sheriff's investigation into an audit of his expense reporting over a three-year period.

The City Council ordered the audit after complaints from at least one councilman that the mayor's spending was out of hand. The audit was forwarded by Tooele City Attorney Roger Baker to Tooele County Attorney Douglas Ahlstrom to avoid the appearance of any kind of "collusion or secrecy."

A Jan. 27 letter from Ahlstrom to City Council Chairman Larry Silcox states that the investigation found no evidence of criminal intent.
