1931~2003
Jasper Lee Rhodes's humble spirit joined his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003.
We will greatly miss him but we are blessed with the gift of many memories of one of the world's finest fathers.
Dad was born December 7, 1921 in East Garland, Utah.
He was the tenth of fifteen children born into the wonderful family of Jasper William and Ellen Garn Capener Rhodes. He was reared on the farm, learning the value of hard work by having to milk 17 cows each morning before school and again at night. He graduated from Bear River High School in 1941 and enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served bravely and honorably in an Infantry Regiment in Africa, and was awarded the Bronze Star for his service with the 10th Mountain Division in Italy.
After the war's end he served with the Fifth Army Headquarters in Austria.
Upon returning home to Tremonton, he met his future wife, Darlene Peterson.
They married February 19, 1947 in Logan; the marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together they moved to Layton in 1955 where he began his long career with Hill Air Force Base.
His first love, though, was farming and after retiring from HAFB he helped run a large farm in Kaysville; he also worked for Black Island Farms in West Layton.
Dad loved to work the soil and share vegetables with his friends and neighbors.
He also loved to listen to country music while riding country roads, and he knew the best places to pick peaches, cherries, apples and pine nuts!
Our father was a very strong man with a gentle and generous heart.
He was a man of few words but a man of many good deeds.
He was truly a devoted father. He adored our dear mother and tenderly took care of her until her death on January 27, 1972.
In addition to his wife, six brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
His children, Gary (Ilene) Rhodes, Gaye Rhodes, Randy (Tina) Rhodes, Holly (Kendall) Rasmussen and Heidi (Brett) Davis will dearly miss him.
Ten beautiful grandchildren, some very special great-grandchildren and the following sisters and brothers survive him: Eula Wood, Alta (Eldon) Munns, Beth (Clyde) Wood and Margene Fryer; Blaine and Carl Rhodes.
Many fond nieces and nephews also survive him and loved him as "Uncle Lee".
Happy trails dear dad.
Your sweet memory will always be in our hearts.
Until we meet again, please rest in the loving arms of our dear mother.
We will honor him at a funeral on Monday, November 24, 2003 at 11 a.m. at
