- Jeffrey Lee Elder, age 43, passed away Dec. 10, 2003 at the University Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born Nov. 15, 1960, in Seattle, WA to Richard Henry and Elizabeth Ann Strub Elder. He married Karen Lorraine Hoeglund in 1979, they later divorced. He married Krystin Elizabeth Akin on May 12, 1995 in Provo, Utah.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a young men's president and gospel doctrine teacher. He was founder and owner of First Step Music Academy and taught band at Jordan Hills, Hayden Peak, and Terra Linda elementary schools. Music was a large part of his life. He was a gifted performer, composer, and lyricist. He also coached baseball and Jr. Jazz basketball.
He is survived by his wife of Lehi; six children, Daniel Elder, Orem, Carissa (Daron) Hill, Lehi, Ben (16), Andrea (14), Emma (2), and Hannah (3 mos.), all of Lehi; 2 stepchildren, Sam Volluz (13), and Sylvia Volluz (15), both of Lehi; his father, Richard (June) Elder, Bellevue, WA.; 4 brothers, Michael (Joan) Elder, Nibley, UT, David (Michele) Elder, Covington, WA, Cris Nelson, Seattle, WA, Steven (Lorene) Elder, Draper; 2 sisters, Lori (Chris) Bailey, Seward, AK, Karen (Jeff) Anderson, South Jordan; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth; and his grandparents.
Funeral services will be Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, at 12:00 noon in the Bull River 1st Ward Chapel, 3180 N 300 W, Lehi, where family and friends may call from 10:00-11:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment, Lehi City Cemetery.
