OREM — It was a career night for Mountain View's dynamic duo at the Ragu Classic.

Forward Danny Johnson scored 32, his highest point total ever, and guard Nate Allman tied his career best with 29 as the Bruins defeated a very athletic squad from Charlotte Christian High School, N.C., 81-77 Friday night at Utah Valley State College.

"Any time you've got those type of players, you always feel like you can pull it out of the hat," Bruins coach Jason Young said.

The win keeps the Bruins perfect on the young season. All four of Mountain View's victories have been of the comeback variety, two being overtime wins. The Bruins trailed for most of the game Friday night before catching the Knights late and holding on for a big confidence-building victory.

"We never get up early," Johnson said. "I guess we're just a comeback team."

"We played really well in the fourth quarter," Allman said. "But we just don't want to rely on that all season long. We'd like to get up on some teams."

While Johnson killed the Knights all game with a strong inside game, keeping Mountain View within striking distance for the first three quarters, it was the 3-point shot that turned the game the Bruins' way. Three consecutive dead-swish bombs from Allman midway through the fourth quarter put Mountain View up 65-64 — the Bruins first lead since an early 11-8 advantage. The feisty two-guard connected on four treys for the game and scored 18 of his 29 in the final 16 minutes.

"It just felt good every time I let it go today," Allman said.

After Charlotte Christian tied the game at 70, Johnson drained a high-arching shot from the corner to put Mountain View back up by three. The Knights' Jeremy Thompson tied the game at 73 with two minutes remaining when he scored a 3-point play the old-fashioned way.

However, an inside banker by Evan Astle from a great Bryan Dickinson pass and another close bank shot from Johnson on back-to-back possessions gave the Bruins control of the game for good. Mountain View hit seven of eight free throws in the final minute to hang on.

Mountain View's guards, Dickinson and Scooter Blake, combined for 12 assists, many resulting in easy inside hoops for Johnson. Unable to stop the 6-foot-6 power forward, the Knights finally resorted to fouling him. But Johnson responded by sinking 11 of 16 free throws.

"Their guys would come out so fast that I could just drive around them," Johnson said.

Despite walking away with a victory, Young expressed post-game concern that his team again started slow and with no fire in its eyes.

"It almost caught up to us again," Young said. "We need to get that changed."

For Charlotte Christian, Thompson finished with 19 points, while sharpshooter Ryan Furlong added 18 and sophomore playmaker Stephen Curry chipped in 17.
