A Salt Lake man has been charged with kidnapping and holding a woman against her will for two months.
The victim told police the man had threatened to kill her family if she left him, according to charges filed Thursday in 3rd District Court. The charges did not indicate the relationship of the woman and the man, 25.
Police went to the residence, near 600 South and 1300 West, Tuesday after the victim's mother reported her daughter was being held against her will.
Officers reported seeing movement inside the house, but no one answered the door.
According to the victim, the man ordered her and two other individuals not to open the door when the police arrived.
The man told detectives he had slapped the woman once and added, "She needs to learn to respect me," charges stated.
The man faces three counts of kidnapping, a second-degree felony, punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
