1924 ~ 2003
Roland O. Morford, 79, of Pleasant Grove passed away from this life on Thursday, December 11, 2003 after a courageous battle with cancer and pneumonia.
He was born on November 1, 1924 in Lehi, Utah to Francis and Rachel Andreason Morford. His father died when he was two years old and his mother died when he was six. He was raised by a loving step-father, William W. Mecham.
Roland grew up in Lehi and graduated from Lehi High School in 1942. He joined the U. S. Navy and served in all three theaters during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Birmingham.
He married LaPreal Allen on June 6, 1951 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They made their home in Pleasant Grove. He worked for Alpine School District for many years and was still working part-time while his health permitted.
He was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many positions during his life. He enjoyed working at both the Provo and Mt. Timpanogos Temples. He and LaPreal served in the Birmingham Alabama Mission from 1991-1992.
He is survived by his wife LaPreal of Pleasant Grove: children: Sharon (Monte) Conder, Puyallup, WA; Karen (Joe) Chipman, American Fork; Kevin (Holly) Morford, West Jordan; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Additional survivors include his sisters, Marie Foutz and Alene Mecham. He was preceded in death by his son David Randy Morford; a brother, Joseph W. Morford; sister, Thelma Anderson; step-siblings: Doran Mecham and Ellen Johnson.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 17, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. in the Timpanogos Stake Center, 800 North 100 West, Pleasant Grove. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 6-8 at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove and at the church on Wednesday one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Lehi City Cemetery. Military Rites will be conduct by the American Legion.
