Calvin Ford Thomas, 76, passed away Thursday, December 11, 2003 at the Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George of complications from cancer.

He was born March 13, 1927 in Palmyra, Utah to Edward A. and Arvilla Ford Thomas. He graduated from Spanish Fork High School after which he enlisted in the U.S. Navy serving in World War II. Calvin married Carol Larsen on September 27, 1948 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He was a High Priest in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Calvin worked at Geneva Steel and was a prominent farmer in the Spanish Fork area for most of his life. He raised replacement dairy heifers and at one time was one of the largest sugar beet producers in the area. In the latter part of his career he worked as a dispatcher for Huff Trucking and managed his own commodities brokerage business.

Calvin loved spending time at his home in St. George and working in his beautiful, award winning yard. He also enjoyed traveling and playing golf. He will be remembered for his quick wit and delightful sense of humor. He was active in civic affairs having served in local and state leadership positions in Jaycees, Lions, and VFW.

Calvin is survived by his sweetheart of 55 years, Carol; six children, Collette (Randy) Cowan, Cedar City; Tamara (Richard) Davis, Shannon (Stuart) White, both of Spanish Fork; Lane (Annette) Thomas, Roosevelt; Blake Thomas, Orem; Jan Thomas, Provo; 16 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Blair (Jean) Thomas and sister, Dale (Bernell) Smith both of Spanish Fork. His parents, a brother, Gerald Thomas, and a granddaughter, Kiplyn Davis, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 16, 2003 at 11 a.m. at the Spanish Fork 1st Ward Chapel, 310 East Center Street. Friends may call on Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Walker Family Mortuary, 187 South Main, Spanish Fork, and prior to the services on Tuesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment will be at the Spanish Fork City Cemetery with full military honors.
