"Grandpa Boom Boom"
Robert Benjamin Whitney, 75, passed away on December 11, 2003 at his home.
He was born in Princeton, Minnesota on August 9, 1928 to Benjamin Robert Whitney and Margaret Pickering. After graduating from high school, he served in the Army for one year, stationed in Korea and later served six years in the Air Force, stationed in Spokane, WA. He met Doreen A. Seitz in 1955 in Missoula, MT where they married. His career spanned 35 years with the FAA as an Air Traffic Controller and software engineer. He loved his many collections, golfing and doing work on his computer. He greatly enjoyed the opportunity to serve as a volunteer for the 2002 Winter Olympics. His family and dear friends will miss his witty humor and contagious laugh.
He is survived by his wife, Doreen; three children, Jolene Whitney, Midvale, Ray Whitney (Colleen), Yakima, WA, Ann Mulligan (David), Colorado Springs, CO; three grandchildren, Janine Whitney, Caitlin Mulligan, Kevin Mulligan; and 13 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Margaret Joyce Stark.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Vincent's Catholic Church, 1375 E. Spring Lane (5150 South), on Thursday, December 18, 2003 at 10:30 a.m.
Robert's final resting place will be in Missoula, Montana. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society.
