In capturing Saddam this weekend, the soldiers of the 4th Infantry division showed what I would characterize as "unbelievable restraint." I tried to picture what I would do if, when taking off the Styrofoam and rug, I found Saddam. If it had been me, the only vote would have been: grenade or firing squad.
It is amazing to see how far the civilized world goes to ensure a fair trial — even for Saddam, the thug whose idea of a fair trial is the firing squad. Congratulations to the armed forces for their courage, bravery, sacrifice, training and restraint. In their actions this weekend, the U.S. armed forces have made civilization proud. I hope and pray they all get home soon.
