The AYP reports released Monday can be deceiving, superintendents and Utah PTA leaders say. Those schools not making AYP may have missed the mark only on participation, for example, and otherwise have a stellar report. On the other hand, some schools need to address problems of students who are falling behind peers.
How to sort it all out?
Parents are urged to look carefully at reports listed online, both at the State Office of Education, www.usoe.k12.ut.us, and on individual school district Web sites. They also might consider speaking with their school's principal if they have concerns.
