WOMEN'S GOLF: BYU coach Sue Nyhus announced the early signing of Juli Wightman, a native of Chicopee, Mass., who has been highly recruited all over the country and has extensive local and national experience. Schools such as Michigan, Purdue, Tulane, Georgia Tech, UCLA and South Florida have recruited her.,

She is a former high school girls state champion and three-time winner of the Western Massachusetts girls title. She has also led her (boys) high school golf team for four years, serving as the co-captain her senior year.

Utah

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: No. 21-ranked Utah (6-2) travels to Corvallis, Ore., for an 8 MDTgame tonight at Oregon State (4-3). Utah is coming off its 20th straight home victory, 61-51 Saturday over Washington State. Kim Smith scored her game-average 17 points, while Shona Thorburn added 16.

Oregon State saw its nine-game home winning streak come to an end Saturday when it fell 71-69 to Southwest Missouri State. The Beavers are led this season by Hollye Chapman, who averages 11.4 points and 7.4 rebounds.

Utah State/UVSC

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Utah State (0-5) continues its two-game homestand with an exhibition against Utah Valley State College (4-7) tonight at 7.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Colorado State forward Melissa Dennett was named Mountain West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week. A 6-foot-2 sophomore from Salt Lake City and Highland High, Dennett scored a career-high 24 points in an 80-63 win at Denver last week, helping snap a three-game losing streak for the Rams. She connected on 11-of-17 from the field, while collecting five rebounds and two steals. Dennett scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds in a 71-63 victory at San Francisco.

Southern Utah

FOOTBALL: SUU linebacker Nick DiPadova has earned third-team all-America recognition from the Sports Network, following DiPadova's earning first-team I-AA all-independent honors last week.

DiPadova, a 6-foot, 205-pound senior from Woodland Hills, Calif., ranked sixth in I-AA with 12.09 tackles per game (133 total) during the regular season. DiPadova also had 13 tackles-for-loss, two sacks, two interceptions, broke up three passes, forced three fumbles, recovered three fumbles and scored one touchdown on an interception return. --> SUU (5-2) continues its annual pre-Christmas homestand Tuesday against Texas-San Antonio (2-4) at 7:05 p.m. at the Centrum Arena.
