Walter Jacob Shewmake passed away January 29, 2003 in West Valley City, Utah.
Born in Georgetown, Illinois on February 7, 1920 to Grace Williamson and Richard Shewmake. Married Afton E. Longhurst in Pocatello, Idaho on August 22, 1942. They spent 59 years of devoted love to each other. Dad missed her dearly the past year. He had great love for all his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and his many friends. He served proudly during World War II. Dad was a member of the L.D.S. Church.
He worked at Brazer Auto after his retirement from Gallagers until mother became ill in 1999. He became a gentle caregiver to mom until her death in January of 2002, he never left her side. He loved to watch all sporting events, especially B.Y.U. and the Jazz.
Survived by sons, Walt (Nola) and Kelly; daughter, Rebecca Rider; sisters, Mary and Cathrine of Chicago; sister-in-law, Orlean Turner of West Valley and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents and daughter-in-law, Marianne.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, February 3, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the Western Hills 1st Ward, 5133 South Heath Avenue, Kearns. The family will receive friends at a viewing Sunday, February 2nd from 5-7 p.m. at Valley View Funeral Home, 4335 West 4100 South, and one hour prior to the services on Monday at the Ward.
