The Canyon Country Western Arts Festival will run Thursday-Sunday, March 13-16, in the Sharwan Smith Center at Southern Utah University, Cedar City. The festival, dedicated to the preservation of Western heritage, will begin on Thursday at 4 p.m. with a free fiddle contest. A banquet will be held in the SUU Great Hall from 6:30 p.m. Cost is $25.
Friday and Saturday's events, which begin at 10 a.m., will include a Western Arts Festival, featuring cowboy poetry, music, food and vendors. Saturday will feature a Kids' Corral. Admission to weekend day events is $5.
At 7 p.m. on Friday, the SUU auditorium will host a Western music/variety show. Admission is $10.
Saturday evening's event will be an old-fashioned cowboy concert, spotlighted by the Sons of the San Joaquin and cowboy poets Walter "Bimbo" Cheney and Colen Sweeten. Saturday's concert will begin at 7 p.m. Admission is $10.
