Officer on horse helps in arrest after chase

OGDEN — A man police believe was high on drugs was arrested following a chase scene reminiscent of the Old West.

A man, 26, tried to break into a restaurant and a van before a car was stolen from a restaurant parking lot in the 1900 block of Washington Boulevard, Ogden police Lt. Scott Sangberg said.

The break-in was witnessed by a police officer who was in the area patrolling on horseback. The officer gave chase but was unable to keep up with the vehicle, Sangberg said.

The officer called for backup, and two officers in patrol cars picked up the chase.

The fleeing man crashed eight blocks away into an iron fence that surrounded the city pet cemetery.

The officer on horseback followed the chase the entire way and caught up a short time later to assist in the arrest.
