Kelly Clarkson, the 20-year-old crooner chosen as the first "American Idol," has some advice for contestants on the second edition of the Fox TV smash hit: Be yourself.
"It sounds so corny and cliched, but don't be Britney. Don't be Christina. Don't be me," Clarkson tells the March 15 issue of TV Guide.
Other tips: Grow thick skin to deal with judge Simon Cowell's barbs, show your versatility and get plenty of rest.
Clarkson, who appears live on "American Idol" March 18 to debut the first single of her forthcoming CD, says she recently learned that Aretha Franklin owns her 2002 single, "A Moment Like This."
