Obituary: Barbara Clawson Hewlett

11/27/25 ~ 3/10/03

Barbara Clawson Hewlett, 77, passed away unexpectedly on March 10, 2003.

Born November 27, 1925 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Irwin and Bertha May Gray Clawson. Married Charles Stewart Hewlett on April 21, 1952 in the Salt Lake Temple. He died March 18, 1980.

Mom was an active member of the LDS Church serving in whatever capacity she was called. Most recently she has enjoyed her many associations as a temple worker in the Salt Lake Temple. Prior to her marriage, she served a mission to the Canadian Mission. Music was also a big part of her life as she sang for nearly 20 years in the Tabernacle Choir along with her husband and several brother and sisters-in-law. She also taught elementary school for over 20 years in the Salt Lake School District at Bennion, Lowell, and Meadowlark.

Barbara enjoyed many lifelong friendships as a member of The Ensign Club, The Saturday Nighters, The DUP, Cleofan, ADK Sorority, her early morning jumping group and the neighborhood crocheting group. Mom's fondest memories, however, involved time spent with family and relatives at Pine Valley.

She is survived by her sons and their wives, Stephen (Sharon), Stewart, Mark (Kathy), Shawn (Jeannette), Spencer (Ann), and Charles (Maureen); and 22 grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband; a brother, Gray Clawson; daughter-in-law, Kathryn Despain Hewlett; brother-in-law, Lester F. Hewlett, Jr.; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Smoot.

Services will be held Saturday, March 15, 2003, at 11 a.m. at the Monument Park 4th Ward, 2215 East Roosevelt Avenue (1450 South). A visitation will be held Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South, and Saturday morning at the ward from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Interment, Wood-land, Utah.

A special thanks to her close friends, neighbors, and relatives who always made a special effort to include Mom in their dinner dates and social activities after Dad passed away.
